Kiffin Warned by SEC

(Mullen from Miss St was warned as well)

Tennessee Volunteers coach Lane Kiffin has been reprimanded by the Southeastern Conference for criticizing officials who worked the Volunteers' game against Alabama.

For Kiffin, it was the second time this year he has been reprimanded by the league. SEC commissioner Mike Slive said Kiffin could be suspended if he violates conference rules again.

Kiffin complained Sunday that officials failed to penalize Alabama's Terrence Cody for unsportsmanlike conduct when the defensive lineman removed and threw his helmet after blocking a field goal on the last play of Alabama's 12-10 victory Saturday.

Demps Expected To Play Saturday

Florida running back Jeff Demps is wearing a neck brace, but coach Urban Meyer expects him to play Saturday against Georgia.

Demps, second on the team with 457 yards rushing and five touchdowns this season, injured his neck during a tackle in Saturday's 29-19 win at Mississippi State. Demps ran five times for 13 yards against the Bulldogs.

Meyer says Demps won't have any contact in practice for at least a couple of days. But the coach believes he will be ready when the top-ranked Gators face the Bulldogs in Jacksonville.

Demps, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Winter Garden, has played every game the last two seasons.

Gator Injury Update

Florida Gators seniors, middle linebacker Brandon Spikes (groin, Achilles tendonitis) and defensive end Jermaine Cunningham (groin), both sat out practice on Tuesday. On Monday, head coach Urban Meyer told reporters Spikes is probable for Saturday’s game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Meyer confirmed on Tuesday that both Spikes and Cunningham are probable, so one would assume they were just being given extra time to rest and rehab.

Kiffen Runs His Mouth Again

What an ass...sucking up to 'Bama is not going to prevent UT from being crushed this weekend.

If you were to look up the phrase "lightning rod" in a collegiate football dictionary circa 2009, there'd be a good chance you'd see the boyish visage of Lane Kiffin staring back at you.

Love him, hate him, despise him, the new Tennessee head coach has proven to be nothing short of sheer entertainment for his supporters and despicable fodder for his voluminous detractors during his ten months in Knoxville.

Since the regular season began, though, and with his team eventually toddler-walking to a middlin' 3-3 record, Kiffin has pretty much kept his collegiate coaching precociousness to himself.

Until now.

Iconic

From the Gainesville Sun

With pain shooting through his leg from the irritating tendinitis in his Achilles, Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes made it an effort to get to his man on every play.

He had to. He and his teammates had to after listening to college football analysts calling him and his unit out earlier in the day.

Spikes had to make a statement, not just for himself, but for his defense. A defense that had yet to show what it was capable of doing on the biggest stage.

Both passed in Florida's 13-3 win over No. 4 LSU Saturday night.
